Guide to Installing Swing Gates

Gudgeon and Trunnion Hinge:

Is the simplest hinge to install because it can be adjusted to level gate up after gate has been swung and if gate drops later on it can be re-adjusted.

Ball Bearing Hinge:

Ball Bearing Hinges are more suitable for heavier gates and gates that get a lot of use. They are more critical to fit but allow the gate to be very close to the post. There is also a strape variety available for timber gates.

Wide Opening Angles:

Ball Bearing Hinges are also very handy for gates with a wide opening angle

Rising Gate Hinges:

A special Ball Bearing Hinge pair with an offset on the bottom hinge causes the gate to rise as it opens to allow for sloping driveway. The gate is plumb and may be very close to the post when closed.

Rising Hinges are available that have self aligning bearings to automatically adjust the angle from fully closed to fully open.

Hard Stop for Double gates:

A cast alumnium double swing gate stop is available that can be fitted to the middle of the driveway for the gate to stop against. Short lengths of angle can be fitted to the gate to reach the stop plate of the gate frame centre styles can be extended down when the gate is made.
